What participants say
I came in thinking I was a pretty good leader. I left each session realising how much more there was to learn — and feeling genuinely energised to go back and apply it.
The facilitator has an extraordinary ability to draw out what matters, challenge your assumptions and help you see your situation from a completely different angle.
What struck me most was the calibre of the people in the room. These were leaders I respected enormously — and they were wrestling with the same things I was.
I have done a lot of leadership development over the years. Nothing has come close to this in terms of practical value and immediate application to my work.
It gave me permission to step back from the day-to-day and think about the kind of leader I actually want to be. That space is incredibly rare at this level.
The group helped me think more strategically and consider emerging issues and responses. I no longer see change as a threat but as an opportunity. Participation has assisted me to have an edge re managing restructures and change.
I used to be ‘quiet as a mouse’. Participation encouraged me to share thoughts and ideas, to really listen, and to take and action advice from people. (The latter was particularly important. It made me feel like I didn’t need to have all the answers).
I’ve become a more reflective leader. I tend to be quite action–oriented. Through my membership, I learnt to be more strategic and really think things through, and to focus more on people. The peer learning environment is so critical to the experience. I felt pushed by my peers (in a good way) and their advice and input permeates my approach to work.
Participation has shaped how I approach my leadership skills and practice. The learnings from the groups are always in the back of my mind.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my participation in JWLG, leveraging the knowledge and experience of the facilitator and the diversity of group members.
I highly valued being able to problem solve particular issues with peers. It was interesting for me to see how other people would tackle similar issues. The different perspectives provided was useful.
